ETHNOGRAPHIC RESEARCH

Research method that consists in observing the researched people at their working or living place, for a specified period of time. The analysis lies in observation how a person uses, reacts or/and behaves while working with the product.

What is Ethnographic Research?

The research consists in a longer observation of the user in his natural condition e.g. for an entire day.

The researcher becomes a specific "shadow"/"companion" of the researched person during the normal course of his day.

The researcher records the whole session while observing and analysing the situation.

The analysis is normally conducted for several hours or days in the so called "field" = environment of the researched person or UseLab Laboratory. The analysis ends with the research report.

How does Uselab do that?

In the UseLab team there are educated sociologists, who carry out ethnographic researches.

When to use Ethnographic Research method?

It is necessary to use this method in situations when the context of product use is a key factor for product interaction.
